HI All,
Sad news today. My client with the 24 wk preemies lost one of her babies on
Sun. :''(
I cried with her and her MIL when they told me. She is still pumping for
the other baby, but is understandably very stressed. She is the one who was
concerned about her milk supply for both babies. MIL is now concerned about
moms milk supply dropping as a result of stress from losing the one baby.
Help me here folks. I need your wisdom and guidance to help this mom. I am
not sure what to tell her re: her supply, if I should go ahead and
reccommend herbs (Blessed Thistle) to help or not. (Can one of our
resident herbologists or herb experts e-mail me? I have a question re:
specific herbal galactogoues.) Or should I just encourage her to pump as
best she can (has dropped down to q 4 hrs or so due to stress) get plenty of
rest and see the other baby as often as possible.
THis has kinda thrown me for a loop, too, so I am doing my best to think
straight right now. This young mom and I have become close very quickly and
she is depending on me a great deal to help her with all this BF stuff. SHe
has no support or info from the hosp, but thank goodness her family is
supportive too. BTW, Sun morn they were told that the baby was doing very
well, but by Sun nite, she was gone. Babys name was Hope. Ironic, huh?
Thanks all, for your help.
Jay
Sad that a baby who was so wanted could only feel her mommys arms around her
right before she died. They wouldn't let her be held beforehand bc she was
too fragile.
