Ashley that is great explanation!  I really liked the Ameda when I used it at a different hospital.  My hospital uses Medela, but have not done any comparison testing.
I agree, a huge waste of tubing and expense, when they are not universal for Medela.

I worked at a hospital in another state, the tertiary care centers used Ameda so we changed. I was not a fan of the hand pump though.  This was prior to insurance covered pumps. The die-hard Medela nurses fans, kept saying our WIC moms will have to get a new kit if they get a pump from WIC in a few weeks.  So?? 
 We kept the one Medela pump we owned, along with Ameda. Staff were so resistant that we ended up staying with Medela. We had some nursing moms on staff that tried both saying they liked Ameda-   Now, if a baby transferred to NICU, they get another kit from Ameda.
The insurance covered pumps, Moms like Medela and Spectra better than Ameda.
