Dear Lactnet Friends:

Someone asked me "f a diabetic mum has high blood glucose which isn’t
controlled by well (for various reasons), does the high sugar content pass
through breast milk and what effects would it have on the baby?"

I am not aware of any research on this topic and did a quick search and
found nothing.

I responded that breastmilk would reduce the chances of the baby developing
diabetes and that breastfeeding could help with regulating the mother's
blood sugar levels. This is what the research tells us. But that doesn't
answer her question.

Anybody have an idea?
