Maybe this could be an opportunity to educate mothers upon admission. The Academy of Pediatrics recommend exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months; which meas youii nfant doesn't need any other food or drink (I like to say beverage....I usually get a laugh). Ho do you plan on feeding your baby? This may give you an indication of what her level of dedication is as well. Often I have paitients raise their eyebrows when I say 6 months...and we have a conversation on strategies to make it as long as possible exclusively breastfeeding.
I don't know how easy it is to get your staff to get get on board with 10 seconds of education....
