I have worked successfully with mothers who were relactating for adopted
children, however I have a situation were I have not been in before and need
some direction. I have permission from the mom to post.

Mom has 4 other biological children and she has nursed all of them. She is
up to receive an adopted baby in 2 months. Before we started to work
together she was just taking mother's milk tea and pumping 2-3 times a day
and getting enough to fill a bottle. Well, just a few days ago when we
started to work together so I can help her understand more standard protocol
when inducing lactation, she found out she is pregnant. So all the medical
and herbal galactogues I was going to suggest as well as increased pumping
frequency needs to be discontinued until I talk to you.

The interesting thing is...she was up to receive an adopted baby last year
and started pumping 2-3 times a day and got pregnant then as well. She
ended up not pumping due to some stress in her life and then lost the
pregnancy shortly after discontinuing the pumping between 8-10 weeks. And
the adoption never went through.

So my question is... both times she was able to get pregnant while pumping
2-3 times a day when she hadn't been able to for 5 years of trying...but
with the loss of the previous pregnancy is she at risk to lose this one if
we up the pumping to 8 times or stay at the 2-3 a day? I know she can't have
any herbal or medical galactogues while pregnant but should she stop all
pumping and continue with 2-3 times a day or can she increase to 8? She has
a history with all her babies of having premature contractions but never any
cervical changes and babies come around due date every time. Or should she
just wait another 2 months when she receives her adopted child and she will
be in the 3 month of pregnancy and just put him to breast with and SNS? Any
thoughts, advice or research to support would be great!!
