I've recommended them for many years.  With any salt that is handy!
1 cup water from faucet, 1/4 tsp salt.  Even had a card printed up to hand
out when I was hospital LC 86-91.  I was desperate one day with a pt with
awful nipples. Had tried airing, lanolin, tea bags etc.   My mom had always
soaked everything sore in salt water so I thought what the heck, tried it
and it worked! I tell moms to make compresses or actually soak nipple in a
tea cup full of saline.  Of course, you try and figure out cause 1st!
Usually severe TT or poor positioning.  Actually since tummy to tummy became
a byword don't see that many positioning caused sore nipples.  Pat in SNJ
