this is true. a lll leader has more experience than some ibclc's,but for the most part an ibclc has been thru some training course backed by some university OR has been working with mothers and babies for a very long time and has a strong back ground in mother/baby care. i think the cbc will confuse moms. some women dont know what a lc is, or what she does. when i walk into a room the moms call me the lactation nurse if i have on scrubs, or the doctor if i wear a lab coat. i could see the mom being confused with a cbc and thinking she is an ibclc because she wears the uniform well, but will the requirements be the same as an lc and if not, what is the use for it when there are le courses out there?

Norma, That idea has merit, but also problems.
For example, I don't know if LLL will feel like their leader certification
process, which is highly regarded, of course, would be looked at
differently. I wonder if leaders who want to pursue IBCLC status would have
to go thru a CBC certification, or could the 2 processes be recognized
equally. I could see an LLLL being grandfathered in as a CBC, but not
necessarily a CBC being automatically made a LLLL, because the person might
not have
all the group experience, and even the personal bf experience. Remember, it
is not required for an Ibclc to ever have bf a baby, but is required for
LLLL, as I understand it, and for some peer counselors (WIC in the USA I
believe). Just adding to the discussion.
