Dear Friends:

Chauntelle is offering her point of view. I sense frustration and share that
feeling. After learning all the reasons that women don't breastfeed, and of
how we humans get in our own way too much, I am struck anew with the
absurdity and downright craziness of the whole world.

Chauntelle, every new mother in every single country on this earth is under
siege by predatory industry, and also by a shrinking world where what
happens in the US is perceived to be "better" or "more modern" than what has
worked for millions of years to make our precious babies alive and thrive.
It doesn't matter where one lives. There is no "lactopia". Scandanavian
countries, where I imagined breastfeeding to be easy and long, are having
trouble sustaining duration and exclusivity. Women from African countries
can have sore nipples and mastitis.

As already stated, it doesn't matter what country a woman lives in, she is
at risk for a miserable birth (from either the abuse of or the absence of
technology) and barriers to breastfeeding.

We come together on LACTNET to ventilate to each other about how difficult
and crazy our situation can be, to share and support each other in our
blessed work, and to keep the hope of joyous birth and easy
breastfeeding alive for our daughters and granddaughters, and all the
families on earth.
