A few of you have mentioned observing that younger mothers seem to have more
abundant milk supplies than their more senior counterparts.  Today I have
been reading an interesting study that reports on the reasons mothers in
Kingston, Jamaica (in 1967-8) gave for introducing bottles. (14% attributed
this decision directly to advertising!!) In the discussion, the author says,
'... Dean (1951) ... Described the actual yeild of breastf milk in 22 000
mothers, found by test weighing their babies before and after each feed.  He
found primipare produced less milk that multiparae, and young primiparae
produced more milk than older primiparae.'
