breastfeeding with a tight frenulum can be fatiguing for some babies.>>

I don't have an analogy but this may be of help: I have a
friend/colleague (IBCLC) who herself was successfully breastfed with an
unclipped tongue-tie. If you ask her, she'll show you what she can do
with her tongue easily, and what she can do only with difficulty or
strain. After I first started asking her to discuss her tongue with me
(I mean, what an opportunity, right? Our baby-clients can't tell us a
thing!) she'd tell me the next day, "Regina, remember yesterday? Well,
today my tongue hurts. It hurts!"

The effort to move her tongue beyond its normal ability literally made
it sore the following day. This happened a number of times; I've been
telling the relevant clients about it ever since. (And, mind you, she
wasn't doing it 20 minutes at a time 10x/day like a breastfed baby would
be.) It usually has helped them to understand what their baby is going
through. It also helps, of course, to point out that she did
breastfeed. I hope this helps your clients...
