Lactnetter's,
Not exactly a rhetorical question, I would never have stored pumped breast
milk in anything but milk storage bags.

I'm giving two sessions at the AZ LLL Area Conference this weekend, for
employed moms and for LLL leaders about supporting employed moms.

A co-leader asked me why moms need to use storage bags designed for
storing/freezing breast milk, with a concern that the WIC population in
particular might find the cost of milk storage bags prohibitive and
prefer/try to use regular old grocery store freezer bags instead.

My answers include
breast milk storage bags whether Medela, Bailey, Lansinoh, Gerber even are
a) pre-sterilized
b) thicker (most often multi-ply) than regular food storage bags
c) have volume markings on them
d) are designed for this

Is this enough? In a pinch is it ok to store milk in a regular old ziploc
type of bag?

It occurs to me that I can bring a sample medela, lansinoh and gerber to the
session along with a regular grocery store type bag.

Ruth
