Back to my point...is there any connection to birth interventions such as
vaccuum extraction and trauma in the mouth or tongue leading to lopsidedness?

born!!!)
Dear Kellie,
Yes. Asymmetries of face and head can be related to either position in utero
and/or birth trauma. See my recent posting re: crooked mouth, crooked tongue
to Ann Conlon-Smith and the resources mentioned there. Of particular interest
is the article by Dee Kassing re: CST at the BFAR website.

Also of interest is Chapter 7, "Physics, Forces, And Mechanical Effects of
Birth on Breastfeeding" by Linda Smith in her and Mary Kroeger's book, Impact of
Birthing Practices on Breastfeeding.

I would sg that you consider and explore CST for the possible resolution of
your issues.

After having had several successes with resolving Bfing issues in babies via
CST, the CST practitioner that I was referring to most frequently offered me a
free CST treatment so that I could see what it was she did to the babies. It
was wonderful, releasing energy, like a massage does, but more deeply, more
closely felt like what is released during acupuncture treatments. In our
conversation I mentioned my frequent headaches and she said yes, CST could help. And
they have.
I then paused and asked about chronic, almost daily migraine headaches. She
said yes, she can usually help someone in that situation reduce or eliminate
their headaches and also their medication.
My then 22 year old daughter was dealing with almost daily migraines that had
definitely impacted her quality of life, her ability to study and her GPA
(she was a sophomore at UCSD). These were the result of the four concussions she
had sustained in her time riding horses and competing in 3 day Eventing:
dressage, stadium jumping and cross-country jumping.
The 3rd one in '99 had started the headaches, but not until the 4th
concussion in June of '04 did they become more debilitating and require the care of a
neurologist and Midrin and Verapamil to help control them.
I asked my dd if she was interested in CST and she was. She began seeing the
Dr. twice a week. After about 4 or 5 sessions, she noticed a definite
reduction in the frequency, duration and intensity.
After a few months of CranioSacral Therapies, during one of the sessions, the
Dr. noticed something and questioned my dd about how each of her falls had
happened. When we went through the details of the third one, which occurred in
1999, (she came off the horse as she was mounting him because he had run away
with her and then started bucking, and as she landed on the ground his hoof
struck her on the right side of her head. She has always worn a helmet, otherwise
she would not be alive, I am sure.), she told my dd that she had a depression
in her skull on the right side. As she continued to work on that area both
she and Lauren could feel something shift. After that her recovery was
noticeable.
She is currently off the meds, except when her stress level builds...around
midterms and finals. But she is not on daily meds nor does she even have daily
or weekly headaches. It has been such a wonderful gift to her to be able to
study better, focus more, retain more information and not have the terrible pain
that those daily headaches involved.
Why share this story? CST was able to offer relief to an adult who had
sustained an injury several years ago. Is it possible that your injury extending
back to birth might be resolved also? I think it might be worth looking into.
I have found that CST has offered benefits not only to the clients to whom I
refer, but also for me and my daughter.
I can't promise you, Kellie, that CST will restore symmetry in your facial
structure, but I would definitely explore the possibility and investigate the
skill levels of the CST therapists in your area.
Sincerely,

Ann Russell, IBCLC, RLC
