The easiest way to do this is to put your dated paper in an envelope, then
mail it to yourself.  You've got postmark proof that you wrote the words
first.  Leave it sealed until trial.  :)

Barbara should act as though she is simply saving him the trouble of looking
up her number or her e-mail in order to get in touch and ask her permission
to use the material.  She should take it TOTALLY for granted that he will
cite her by name.  Anything else is theft and if Barbara discovers that it
has been published, she should bring any plagiarism to the attention of the
editor of the publication.  This means she should have a dated hard copy of
what she wrote, in a safe place, to use as proof that the words are hers.
