Rachel, what you describe tickles me no end too! Since exclusive
breastfeeding for premies seems to be so very rarely recorded, is there any
chance at all that you - or someone - is able to carefully document what
happens to these babies - exactly what is fed to them, (how much EBM per
kilo per day, from birth to hospital discharge, exactly what vit/mineral
supplements they receive) and record their growth and outcome (weight gain,
infections if any) for the benefit of future preterm babies (so that
evidence can inform futore protocol)?? It seems that the addition of human
milk fortifier has become so common as to be the current standard of care,
with the accompanying belief that these very small babies cannot grow
"properly" without it. I have worked with hundreds of preterm babies who
received only exclusive breastmilk-feeding plus the addition of specific
minerals and vitamins, as you describe, so I know that they survive and
thrive, and go on to gain as much as 70g/day. But it is not documented -
well, it was, but my notes no longer exist. This seems to be another window
of opportunity to prove that it can be done - an observational study. Any
chance of this??

Best wishes to these babies - they will do so well!
