I was very unimpressed with this clip for the Breastfeeding Story in the
Today show. It does promote breastfeeding, but again it has that message of
breastfeeding being superior like an extra protection we can give our babies. The
two women even joke about how brilliant they are and were not even breastfed. I
would love the same story in a different light, how 40% of mothers put their
babies at risk of asthma, diabetes, childhood obesity, ear infections and
respiratory illnesses by not breastfeeding. Then 79% of mothers continue to place
this risk by introducing formula way too early. And at the end of the story
instead of putting limits on breastfeeding with a gross out factor, state how is
naturally to breastfeed an wean only after two years. Until breastfeeding is
seen as the norm and formula is the inferior and risky substitute, promotion of
breastfeeding will only continue to reinforce to moms that formula is still a
good enough second choice.

Well here is hoping to see a change...

Subject: Today Show breastfeeding story

I'm reposting this because I failed to change the subject line. Sorry all!

I found this on the Today show website. I didn't see the show but got an
alert and found this article on their website as well as video of the
interview. Katie Couric makes the comment that if they're old enough to ask
for it, they're too old to nurse. Other than that, the article is great (it
even mentions Domperidone for mothers who need to build supply) and the
interview is very positive. They interviewed a woman OB/GYN and she did an
excellent job! Enjoy the positive press!
