Hello everyone,

I have a mom with a two month old nursling who I have diagnosed of
candidiasis (all the typical symptoms, and is getting better with the
treatment. Her nipples are a bright pink. It is her areolas that have
baffled me. The left one is a typical brown color, but the right one is
loosing its pigmentation from the base of the nipple outward, so that
now the areola all around the nipple is fair-skin colored (not white),
and the outer edges are still dark brown. Mom says this has been going
on for a month and a half.
I know some nevi (beauty spots) loose their pigmentation and either turn
white or disappear. There is also vitiligo, a skin condition where the
skin looses pigmentation in patches. But I have never read of these on
the nipple.
Not that it has any bearing on the breastfeeding, I´m just courious if
any of you have seen this and wether it can have any clinical importance.

Good day!

Kika
