Hello.
       Several of you have mentioned old "not-quite-remembered" references
from probably the 1980's that discourage mixing formula and breastmilk.
However, I am quite sure I either read or heard at a conference more recently (like
late 1990's) that there are components in breastmilk that help to open the gut
wall to accept nutrients more readily from the food.  This particular research
(and I don't have the citation, either!) concluded that it was actually a
*good* thing to mix formula with breastmilk, because those components that help
baby absorb nutrients more readily would also help baby absorb the nutrients
better from the formula.  Sorry, I just couldn't help myself--I had to throw a
"monkey-wrench" into this discussion!
