In the research as I remember it, the concern had to do with the actions of
the bio active portions of the milk on a formula designed without those
factors being taken into consideration. For example there was the concern
that lactoferrin might impact iron absorption. They did not consider the
potential for wasting breastmilk.  I do not have the research in front of
me and I know both it and my memory are getting old so I cannot be sure
either are still accurate. There was no concern about mixing in the
infant's stomach as it quite a different environment from mixing them in a
container and then having the mixture sit for several minutes, possibly
longer.
