A company called Nexia Biotechnologies has developed a recombinant version of
human butyrycholinesterase (Protexia), a bioscavenger to counteract nerve
agents in case of bioterrorism. Protexia is "manufactured" in transgenic goats
(mammary glands as bioreactors). The US and Canadian Armies are interested in
this drug. This binding and neutralization of nerve agents has also been
shown to work with insecticides and cocaine overdoses.

Bile salt-activated lipase is also know as a cholesterol esterase (Euopean
Journal of Biochemistry-"Functional protective role for mucin glycosylated
repetitive domains" by Loomes et al. 1999)

So one might assume that what they are working with might be the human
protein that is made in the human mammary gland called bile salt-activated lipase.
Of course that would explain to me why the Army has been funding studies on
human milk components. The implications are rather interesting, if indeed this
company is working with is bile salt-activated lipase.
