I am a IBCLC since 1986 now working for a WIC agency in the Bronx, NY.  Recently I have been approached by a number of well informed, experienced people who would like to get some necessary experience working with breastfeeding women with the goal of becoming IBCLC.  One such woman has been volunteering with me since September but I have been feeling like the experience has been too free floating and would like to develop some kind of, for lack of a better word, internship program to help these motivated candidates and to best focus such a program.  It also might help me to attract qualified candidates, even from the local colleges, if we had a program like this in place.  And I can alway use the help!

We often use Peer Couselors in our agency but they rarely stay with us for long.  I think it would be motivating if they feel they are working toward a goal, and if they had a time frame within which they knew they would be involved with us.

So, my question to you is:  Are you aware of anyone who has successfully developed such a program?  Is there some kind of outline available somewhere?  Or, can you just point me in a direction that might help me figure this out?  It would be nice not to have to re-invent the wheel!
