I would like to recommend that under the guidelines for using
Lactnet something like the following be added.

When a response is of a personal nature, such as responding to "What
is Mary Smith's e-mail" or one is including personal information
that would be best kept confidential, or is definitely off-topic, or
mentions individuals or products in a way that you don't want the
whole world to read, then respond only to the original poster.

When a poster asks for personal response because she doesn't read
Lacntet that often, or just because she finds it easier to file such
info by individual posts rather than cutting and pasting from a
digest, respond to both the original poster and to Lactnet as a
whole. This is anytime the subject would have interest beyond the
one who originally asked the question.

If this was the general rule, we could avoid a lot of the postings
that simply say "Please send me the info also" whenever there has
been a request to post privately.

In fact, I (and many others from my experience) will always respond
both to the individual and to Lactnet in general any time I am
responding to a question or comment from a specific individual. In
my case, I don't mind getting it double-both personally and in the
digests. That way, if I was to save the response, it is easy to do.

Winnie
