Hello,
A quick update on the baby with the over-sensitive gag reflex and a thank you
to those of you who responded. The baby continued to have difficulty bf, but
was inproving slowly, mother was content to continue pumping and was
providing enough for all the baby needs. Baby was content and growing. Mom
noticed some blood in the milk on a Friday night from one breast only. She
called her midwife who told her "to throw in the towel" that she had "
traumatized the breast "and the she must throw the milk away and quit pumping
immediately as the breast would never heal if she continued pumping. She
instructed her to ice her breasts and take ibuprofen for the pain, that she
would have from quiting cold turkey. This mother was devastated!. When I
finally talked to her on Sunday night, she had been in bed crying for 2 days,
and had not even held her baby for 2 days. It was so sad, she had such an
investment in this baby and bf.
So here are my questions.
1. I searched the archives and was locked out by not having my login
password. (I think the password that they wanted was the password that I put
in 8 years ago, which I don't remember. It would not let me create a new
password. Have I missed some new instructions about the archives? (Okay,
sorry, a bit off- topic)
2. For those of you with more experience with pumping mothers, is this true?
When a small capillary breaks, it will not heal while you are pumping?
Could there have been other suggestions for this mother?
Pat me on the back, I am resisting the urge to rant about this!
