My sympathies, it sounds like you have your work cut out for you.
To read the history of attachment research and find out the why's of
sensitive parenting I recommend "Becoming Attached" by Robert Karen. It is a
large book but easy to read and well referenced. I would recommend this book
to any parent who wants to understand why "attachment parenting" is so
important.
