One of my fellow lactation consultants at the hospital just called me at home
to help troubleshoot a situation. Any ideas are welcome. We have a mother of
twins currently on the unit who is breastfeeding well. She had the twins by
C/S at I believe about 36 weeks. Both twins latch well and have been feeding
exclusively at the breast since birth. This woman's milk came in early today
and both babies were noted today to have frank blood in their stools. I am
told she is on no medication. The MDs involved think it is a rare possible
allergy to breastmilk. No one has told her to stop breastfeeding, but we are
searching for answers before that happens. The babies have not received
formula.
Besides looking at mom's intake of dairy any other ideas
