Barbara, to what do you attribute this swelling?  I never see a home birth
mom, and well, honestly, haven't seen it in non-induced moms unless they have
had it prelabor.  Any thoughts on this? >>

Jan,
(Do you mean you have never seen such swelling in a HB mom, or never seen a
HB mom?) I had the same question for Barbara, though. I have seen many hb
moms (and 3X been one), and there really is a world of difference in the
general health and overall well-being (in the US) of moms birthing in
hospitals and moms birthing at home (w/ moms in birthing centers going either
way, depending on the center).  I think the biggest shock of working in a
hospital for 4 years, that I never really got used to, was the pp condition
of so many mothers. It makes sense to me that hospital birth practices would
explain the edema problem as well as so many others. I am curious about what
else anyone thinks might account for this edema. OTOH, even if there is
another potential cause *as well*, it doesn't mean the inductions aren't
still the primary cause.
