". This drive for food is related to the time needed for milk digestion and
absorption into baby's system. An infant fed on a basic 2 1/2 to 3 hour
routine and whose digestive metabolism is stable [my note -- what the heck
does THAT mean????], will
demand more milk. In turn, this stimulates greater milk production than the
infant demanding less milk more often."

 Jan,

I just had to respond to your post re snacking (I almost wrote "snaking"-how
I feel about Babywise) as it hit me "right between the eyes" when I realized
this babywise stuff on digestion is almost verbatim what a mother was told
about feeding her twins by her HCP. I was so puzzled when the mother told me
and couldn't figure out what this HCP was saying and based on what? that I
almost blurted "That's not true!" Instead, I politely danced around the
HCP's statement, which was,"Babies need to digest their food so feedings
further apart,21/2-3 hrs, give the digestive system time to work." I
informed this mom of research-based "norms" for BF babies, it's ok to BF
every 1/2,1,2 hrs, etc. but realized she also liked what she heard from her
HCP.

But seeing those words in print gave me a sick feeling in my gut when I
realized where this HCP was coming from (or so it seems). I never like to
buy a book that I don't value (and hope my library doesn't have it!) but
perhaps I should so I know what's out there and what moms are exposed to-ugh!
Thanks for your post, Jan; it was enlightening.
Barbara
