Years ago I heard that Horace Bell dropped bees off in the Tupelo region of the Florida panhandle and the local beekeepers poisoned off a huge amount of bees. It was common to get bees poisoned by other beekeepers if you set your bees in areas considered by another beekeeper to be their exclusive territory in the Tupelo region and other areas of Florida by local redneck beekeepers. 
It happened to Gary Orustivic in the Lake City area of Florida years ago in the citrus area of the central ridge.
