I have been using a gas powered weed eater for the past three years, a replacement for an antique scythe which I like better but needs more energy than  I now possess. Neither tool bothers my bees at all. 


Interesting.....  most of my yards will great me at the truck as soon as I wind up the weedeater.   Seems the whistle of the head is what does it.....  but just a guess.

My comment about piping queens is that is obviously is something other queens "hear"  as they respond to it.
