My first extractor was a home made 45 gallon drum
The bearings were seated in wood
About a 3-1 belt reduction, the drill hung off the smaller pulley
external to the drum
Set the drill full speed ,, series a triac dimmer (its own cord)
because it is much easier to adjust the speeds that way
It did last more than 10 years, but it really was crude
The first year was hand crank, I quickly changed to electric,
it was too much work to turn that crank
10-20 boxes most years
