Hi Dawn,
I think you are on the right track. I think the best thing is to relax the
pressure to accomplish the bf. Keep up the supply with the best pump, keep
feeding the baby by whatever method is easiest (I do not recommend starving
the baby into bf), and do a "babymoon" with lots of snuggling, sleeping
together, kangaroo care. They can bathe together etc and if the baby goes
for the breast, fine. I think it will come when baby is more comfortable and
trusting. Some would suggest taking away nipples and cup feeding. I think
this is a valid way of approaching this, but only if this would not
overwhelm mom and if babe seems very capable and agreeable to cup feeding.
It seems from your report, everyone is frustrated and tense. And the mother
is reluctant to have another person try to get them to bf, and to suggest
even one more plan of care.

One other thing is to check for injury. You said baby was in a bad position
and after 20 hrs labor, required c/s. Possible that some injury or soreness
has occurred. Baby could be checked by a craniosacral person, chiropractor,
MD, PT or anyone you know of who would be good at that. Good luck.
