Lisa, it sure sounds like a bacterial infection (mastitis) if the clumps are
there as she pumps it out and if the stringy mucousy stuff oozes out of her
nipple or hangs off of it after or as she pumps. The second edition of the
Breastfeeding Atlas has some good photos of this. I have seen this type
thing in women with raging cases of hospital induced bacterial infections in
their c-section site. From what I understand, this amount of clumpiness
means mom needs some good antibiotics, maybe have it cultured to know
exactly which bacteria this is, and to seek medical help today.
