Thank you for your reply.  The possibility of a non-candidiasis yeast were discussed
in this case as well.  The ID doc thought it very unlikely and said only way to
diagnose it would be  a biopsy which he said would be equivalent to malpractice in a
case like this.  Also said the other drugs would not be compatable with breast feeding
and one of them included Amphotericin.  The OB MD also suggested an empiric course of
antibiotics along with another course of Fluconazole, but ID didn't agree.

This mom has tried everything too including all the things you mentioned.  The baby's
mouth was also treated with nistatin concurrently.   The pain is the limiting factor
here.  Baby is now 7 months old. Mom is trying to hang on at least to 12 months.  The
only thing helping is the baby is on solids and starting nurse less often, giving the
breast a rest. (The painful side is also baby's favorite).  I'm interested to know how
long your mom has been fighting this.
