Dear All,

A thought after attending Med School class (this week) entitled "normal labor.". Discussion mentioned that second stage increased due to epidural - approx 50% longer. Breaking down the data in this new study about micro-hemorrages during vaginal delivery by epidural status (if there were any without epidurals?) would be an interesting data point since the baby's head hits the cervix so much more--not to mention breaking out oxytocin status.

What should be research showing concern for active management of vaginal birth, it is interpreted against vaginal birth entirely.

Ps. also had the experience this week of sitting through the ONLY scheduled class on breastfeeding in the didactic portion of medical school--exactly 50 minutes. Fortunately, good info and the students were engaged--now they know to find an LC which is a good thing.
