The reason for Jewish ritual circumcision on the eight day is that that is
the biblical command as given by God to Abraham in Genesis. If anyone has
further questions on this, I'd be happy to answer. I've been through it with
three sons to date. Of note is the fact that is generally far less upseting
to the baby than a hospital circumcision as they are held by a relative, not
strapped down and a mohel is usuall much faster than the MD and the baby is
given to mom almost immediately for comforting.
