Laurie,
I have used a 35cc syringe to pull out flat or inverted nipples.  Cut off the
barrel by the needle tip, pull out the plunger and re-insert it from the cut
end, and place the flanged end at the areola.  (The cut end is very sharp).
I use this as a temporary method while waiting for materials to send up a
good hand pump .  I wouldn't recommend sending the modified syringe home due
to the sharp edges and uncontrolled negative pressures.
