Genelle,
The literature that cites "prolonged" breastfeeding as being a risk for
malnutrition is talking about exclusive breastfeeding.  Most authorities
recommend "continued breastfeeding with the addition of appropriate
complementary foods" (solids) starting in the second half of the first
year of life.
        Also, IBCLC's are a diverse lot, you will find here that only some are
nurses, others are also physicians, physical therapists, educators,
social workers, etc.  Our diversity is our strength. Welcome.
