I have been a hospital-based IBCLC for 14 years. After changing jobs (my old unit closed) I have been toying with the idea of private practice because there are none in the area. I get phone calls for problems that could be avoided if moms had professional support during the first month.

Here's my proposal:

$250 (home visits)
1- prenatal consult
1- PP visit within 24-48 hrs of discharge
1- PP visit at 1-2 weeks of age
1- 3-4 week f/u phone call

This is a rural area, is this reasonable, too little, too much?

Also, is having malpractice insurance sufficient to cover personal property or should a get an LLC?
Thank you, Carol Leonard, RNC-OB, IBCLC
