Hello Dan.

Thanks for your message.

I want to pursue an interdisciplinary program that allows for both scientific research and academic study in science coupled with science education research methodology and theory. Like you have mentioned, I have also been advised that a doctorate in science education may open opportunities in education but not necessarily in science whereas an interdisciplinary degree in science and education can lead to opportunities in both fields. Ideally my study would be a combination of geoscience and geoscience education. Specifically I am interested in the impact of current climate change on society and ecosystems and sustainable adaptations to ensure water and food security. Along with this is geoscience education-- increasing participation of underrepresented groups in the geosciences, fostering an earth science literate society, and how to most effectively educate communities towards sustainable lifestyle choices given current and projected impacts of climate change.

.... And thanks for any information you may have about doctoral programs.
