Hi Rita,

One of the simplest ways to do this I've seen recently is a plain
piece of tempered glass over a box that was well lit from the sides.

Below the glass, inside the box, was a standard video camera zoomed
in on the glass.

You squashed your thumb or finger onto the glass and got an excellent
fingerprint image on the monitor nearby (you could port the image to
your software/application as well.)

The beauty of this setup was that previous visitors' smudges, prints,
etc. were always "over-ridden" by your real time image so there was
no need to clean the glass (unless you wanted to!)

All in all, a highly evolved exhibit component!

Good Luck!
