We have lie detectors at the Spy Museum and they are a HUGE draw. The
challenge is:
-they have to be operated by a trained professional
-they are challenging to legitimately interpret if you are NOT a trained
professional.

For that reason, we use them for demos and programs, not in exhibits.
We haven't found a satisfactory way to create an exhibit around the true
feeling of being polygraphed. We do have great success with programs in
which guests develop questions, conduct tests (with a trained prof), and
are tested. We do it both in silly quickies and as full 2-hour
workshops.

We also have done many workshops, mostly with teens, where they build
their own GSR-based lie detector, although, as others have commented,
GSR is not the whole story and while it's an awesome electronics
project, it's a lousy lie detector... truth be told.

Hi everyone,

We're thinking of putting some components of a polygraph into our
exhibition
about Measurement- using pulse and galvanic skin response sensors to
measure people's physiological responses to different questions and
hopefully
detect some lies.

Has anyone got a lie detector working in their museum and could give
some
advice on what to do/what not to do/what to watch out for? How do
visitors
respond to lie detectors and what kind of prompt questions are
effective?

Thanks,
Wendy Yung
