Make some vitamin C detector and test various fruits and veggies. (and non fruits and veggies too, if you like!)

I love cabbage as a pH detector too. That's always fun.

good luck!

Check out the kids' magazine Chop Chop. It includes some great articles on nutrition, recipes, games, etc. www.chopchopmag.org

I received a copy when I attended the "Let's Talk about Food" event and MOS workshop on Community Conversations in Boston this summer. About a month later, we put on a "CHOMP!" food event here at Adventure Science Center in Nashville. We were able to incorporate some of the great ideas from Boston and added a few of our own. Here are a few of the activities we had that might fit in with your chemistry theme:

Are you a super taster? (PTC paper testing)

Gell-o science (molecular gastronomy using sodium alginate)

Local coffee company - green vs. roasted bean coffee tasting

Local chocolate company - chocolate tasting and info on cocoa beans

Cooking demos: fermenting foods (making sauerkraut), steaming broccoli, caramelizing sugar
