Dear Liz: David Phillips forwarded your request for information about
Canadian heritage legislation to me. I suggest that you begin with Dave
Burley's 1994 article in the Canadian Journal of Archaeology 18 entitled a
Never Ending Story. In addition, each province and territory has some
sort of legislation. Provincial archaeologists could send you copies of
the appropriate documents. I would suggest Jack Ives of Alberta as an
entry point (Provincial Museum, Edmonton)(phone number 403-453-9149)and he
will undoubtedly have a list of all the others. Ron Williamson, a
contractor in Ontario, would also be a good source of information
(Archaeological Services, Inc., 528 Bathhurst, Toronto Ontario M5S 2P9).
Hope this helps. Jane Kelley
