Just to start matters I would suggest checking
 
Searle, A.B. (various editions) Kilns and Kilnmaking (Calyworkers Press??)
 
which gives an extensive overview of various kilns. Various early texts on
brick and pottery making often discuss kilns.
 
It could be that this is a local design that was never patented or described
therefore you may find nothing about it in the littrature.
