Mr Walter's suggestion is a good one - however, it sems once people have
been 'eased' into Classical Music by immediate gratifying classics, they
never go beyond those 'immediately gratifying classics' to discover the
world beyond those classics.

It slways seemed like a sell-out to be peddling Gershwin as 'immediately
gratifying' while equally attractive and tuneful composers like Goetz
or Schwarenka lie in obscurity (except to members of this list).

And maybe - but I doubt it - a 'musical appreciation' course could be
constructed without the deification of Haydn, Mozart,Beethovan, Schubert,
Schumann - thereby dooming students to a lifetime of decreasing rewards
and increasing boredom as they remain fixed on listening to the same
'great music' over and over again.
