I've been following this with interest though I think that the quotation
Bob originally cited is too limiting.  As someone else pointed out,
tonality is only one constituent part of music.

Here is my mangled recollection of a definition of "greatness:" The
musical choices made by the composer [performer] appear both surprising
and inevitable.
