I can go along with that. I don't often change my mind but it has
happened. Shostakovich started making more sense to me after ~2000.
I still think Mahler overdid things but look forward to LA Philharmonic
evenings including his symphonies (Disney Hall helps). As a beginning
piano student, I'm getting to the point where I can play some short
pieces and have enjoyed learning some of Bartok's works. Next up, a
little Krenek.
I don't think I'll ever grok opera/choral works or the throbbingly
percussive stuff written by so many modernists, though.
