As you probably are aware, Igor Markevitch did not want to be known as a
composer. His reputation, in fact, was as a conductor. In my youth which
I spent in Paris, my father would take me regularly to IM's concerts at the
Palais du Trocadero which were packed.

The fact that my father was a cellist, and my mother a pianist, introduced
me to clasical music at a tender age.

Igor M. was a modest man, albeit an excellent conductor. His life was
spread over many countries: Ukraine, where he was born; Italy, France,
Switzerland, etc.

My recommendation: the Marco Polo series with the Arnhem Philharmonic
Orchestra and Christopher Lyndon-Gee: I regret that IM is not conducting
his own works!
