Did Mr. H. say just how he "cleans up" the Beethoven symphonies?

 [Over the past few decades, many people have spent considerable time
 correcting and cleaning up published versions of works by Beethoven
 and many others.  Hogwood has been involved in these sorts of activities
 for at least 30 years.  I suspect this is what was lost in the
 translation.  -Dave]
