Bob Stumpf wrote concerning my problems with the recorded sound:

These "opposite" viewpoints from Bob and myself just go to show how
differently we hear music.

The sound on the disc was worst when I used headphones. It was a litle
better just with my main loudspeakers, and it was a little better than that
when I was using my computer speakers. However, at no point was it good or
acceptable to me. My conclusion is that the disc would sound best at a
distant source.

I'd like to read some other opinions of the sound on the
Kovacevich/Beethoven recordings on EMI. Part of my problem might be that
I don't care for the "microphone in the piano" sound; I think it's not
natural and just an attempt on the part of engineers to "amplify" the
sound (as if it needed amplification).
