Wow, that name brings back fond memories of an old American Decca LP
(DL-710100), which included a Bortkievich Piano Concerto with soloist
Marjorie Mitchell and William Strickland conducting the Vienna State
Opera Orchestra. On the flip side (as we used to say in ancient times)
was Busoni's "Indian Fantasy." That was an ear-opening release, introducing
me to the name of Sergei Bortkievich (or Bortkiewicz)-- a splendid
concerto, very romantic with lush strings and soaring melodies. I'll
be looking for the new CD to appear. Evidently, Bortkievich wrote at
least three piano concertos.
